But big things are happening in the Crucible, too. Bungie announced today that it’s removed skill-based matchmaking from all of the game’s PvP playlists except Elimination, Survival, and Survival: Freelance. Bungie said the change was made in response to community feedback, and should shorten queue times, improve connection quality in matches, and will also “play into the strengths of Crucible being a bombastic, frenetic action game,” where the priority is having fun rather than winning at all costs.
Trials of Osiris matchmaking will continue to be based on the number of wins on your Passages, Bungie said.

Within the communities for Apex Legends and Fortnite, skill-based matchmaking has become a contentious issue. Skill-based matchmaking seems to be the trend in top competitive games these days and it’s not always warmly received, especially when games like Modern Warfare lack a real ranked mode. Nadeshot took to Twitter to call out Call of Duty devs regarding matchmaking and ranking systems. Matchmaking is the existing automated process in League of Legends that matches a player to and against other players in games. The system estimates how good a player is based on whom the player beats and to whom the player loses. TrueSkill is a skill-based ranking system developed by Microsoft for use with video game matchmaking on Xbox Live. Unlike the popular Elo rating system , which was initially designed for chess , TrueSkill is designed to support games with more than two players. Unbalanced games, for example, result in either negligible updates when the favorite wins, or huge updates when the favorite loses surprisingly. If skill-based matchmaking is working well, every match will always be a challenge for everyone. You’re (in theory) playing people as good as.
So I don’t understand Apex. They are meant to be using SBMM but I’m constantly getting killed by people with over kills on one legend and I have a total of kills on all my legends so I am obviously way worse than that guy with kills but I’m constantly going up against professionals so I’ve got a feeling this whole SBMM is just made up or broken. Yep, it has some strange aberrations indeed. But overall, I feel and see by my survival time, wins and kill count that matchmaking became much more user-friendly comparing to season one.
Levels and kills means nothing. People should stop focusing so hard on this. Rank can also be misleading but maybe not as often as kills and level. But I admit that more skilled players with higher ranks and inconsistent premade teams seem to have problems!
